Abide Together: Reflections on 1 Kings 8

In 1 Kings 8 the Ark of the Covenant is brought into the Holy of Holies in the Temple built under the direction of Solomon.  Solomon tells the people of the Lord’s promise to David to have his son (Solomon) build a house for My name (Temple).  The Lord has obviously kept his promise with the building of the Temple and the placing of the Ark in the Temple.  Solomon then cries out to the Lord in prayer asking him to be gracious and forgiving to His people and any foreigner who would call on His name.  Then Solomon blesses the people and exhorts them by saying, “Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statues and to keep his commandments, as at this day.”  Lord, may my heat be wholly devoted to you, to walk according to Your Word by Your grace.
