Sin has consequences. Where there is sin, you will find death.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death…”
Achan sinned. Achan sinned and then hid it from everyone. He thought he had gotten away with it. No one knew…….or…..at least that’s how it seemed. However, the LORD knew. God always knows. When we try to hide our sin, it’s really sorta ridiculous. Adam and Eve tried to hide, but God knew. Achan hides, but God knew. The whole thing reminds me of a video of a little girl denying that she ate chocolate even though she’s got chocolate all over her face. My wife and I laugh at some of our children’s attempts to hide their behaviors. God probably laughs at our attempts too. We aren’t gonna get away with it.
Because of Achan’s sin, 36 men die and ultimately, Achan is stoned too. Whoa! Sin has consequences. Those are big consequences. In this present age, it concerns me that we don’t take sin more seriously. I wonder what deaths have occurred as a result of my sin? I wonder what blessings I have missed out on or what opportunities didn’t come my way? Is someone literally dead because of my sin? Yes. The answer is yes – a humbling, yet resounding “Yes.”
Jesus died in my place. I’m alive because He died.
Prayer: Lord, Thank you. Thank you for salvation – for the forgiveness I have been given in Christ and the life I have because You died. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit to live as You have called me. I know I won’t be sinless, but help me to sin less. AMEN.
