In Hebrews 7 God through the author shows how the Priesthood of Melchizedek is greater than the Levitical Priesthood.  Jesus came as a Priest in the order of Melchizedek and was therefore greater than the Levitical Priesthood in every way.  The author tells the believers that the Levitical priests died and were unable to perform the services as mediators between God and man, “but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently.  Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since HE always lives to make intercession for them.”  What great news this is for all believers of all time.  Lord, thank You for sending Jesus, The One True Great High Priest who has saved me forever.

In Hebrews 8 the author shows that Jesus was not only the Great High Priest, but “He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.”  Then the author quotes from Jeremiah 31 and shows that Jesus ushered in the promised New Covenant that would operated from the inside out, instead of from the outside.  It would give a new heart to those who trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  Lord, thank You for giving me a new heart that now has the ability to love You and follow You.
