In Romans 5 we are reminded of the fall of man quite a few times.  Not only were we fallen and broken, but as sinners, we were enemies of God.  We sometimes downplay our fallen state and make our situation seem less severe.  We are reminded that our God is so great that he chose to save us through Jesus Christ:  the son, the sacrifice, the atonement for our sins!  How great is our God! For through this one man,  through Jesus our Lord he chose to rescue those who were his enemies.  Chapter 5 is the faithfulness of God laid out for us so well and we can see it is not of our own doing that we have been saved but only through faith in the work of Christ.

In chapter 6 we are blessed to see what this sacrifice means for us.  We see our mindset and attitude toward this grace. We see the command of God through the words of Paul.  We see this command not to continue as slaves to sin.  We are now slaves to righteousness.  We have been blessed by the power of God.  Christ defeated the grave!

“But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.”

We now look forward to that hope and can understand our new life in Christ.  We were dead in our trespasses but God has raised us from death to life in him. We can have hope and life in the finished work of Christ.  We are free from sin!  We are being sanctified, being made holy.  How great is our God that he can take a dead man and make him alive.

“For the wages of sing is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
