Abide Together: Reflections on Genesis 23

Genesis 23 records Sarah’s death and Abraham securing a plot of land for Sarah’s burial.  Verse 3 says, “then Abraham rose from before his dead…” – The fact that Abraham did not remain there and continue to mourn and mourn shows that he understood that God’s eternal plan had not stopped and would continue in and through his life.  In verse 20 it says that Abraham buried Sarah his wife … in the land of Canaan.  This was a physical witness to Abraham’s faith that God would indeed come through on HIS promise of giving this land to Abraham’s descendants.  It would also serve as a reminder to the Israelites of Abraham’s Faith in God’s promises, and would encourage them to have faith in God’s Promises and Plan for them.  Lord, help me live by faith in Your promises and Plan for me.
