In 2 Timothy 2 Paul exhorts Timothy to pass on what he has learned to others who will teach others as well.  He uses a soldier, an athlete and a farmer as illustrations of the suffering, focus and discipline it takes to grow as a disciple.  Paul also reminds Timothy that even though he(Paul) is in prison, the word of God is not imprisoned.  He also reminds Timothy of the grand truth that “If we are faithless, HE remains faithful, for he cannot deny Himself.”  He charges Timothy with rightly dividing the word of truth. Lord, thank You for your never ending faithfulness to me.  Help me rightly divide Your word so that You will be glorified and others will be edified.

In 2 Timothy 3 Paul warns Timothy of the difficult times that are coming when people will boldy hate all things of God.  Some false teachers will always be learning but never come to the truth.  These are the people always looking for the next “new” teaching.  Paul exhorts Timothy to follow his teaching, because it is the teaching given by Jesus.  He also reminds Timothy that all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.  He then reminds Timothy that all Scripture finds its source in God and is perfect and sufficient.  Lord, help me live godly in Christ Jesus and face the persecution that comes with grace.
