In Luke 3, John the Baptist’s ministry is summarized as preaching a baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins, John denies being the Christ, John points to Jesus, John’s imprisonment is recorded, Jesus is Baptized and Jesus’ genealogy is recorded.  John’s total commitment to his call is commendable and challenging.  He was committed to the point of imprisonment and even death.  He preached the truth, because he knew it was the only hope for mankind.  He called sin, sin, so that people would see their sin and need for a savior.  He was no respecter of persons in that he was also willing to call Herod to account for his sin, which ultimately cost him his life.  Lord, by Your Grace, may I always call sin, sin, and point people to Jesus no matter the cost.

I was very moved to read the great detail in which Luke recorded the Holy Spirit descending upon JESUS! This event is captured in both Matthew and Mark, but Luke really gives some beautiful imagery as he says “The Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “you are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.” Luke 3:22 ESV

While the genealogy shows JESUS’ line from Adam the verse mentioned above shows the lineage of deity! Thank you Lord Jesus for your Holy Word and guiding wisdom in this land of sin!
