In Acts 1, Luke records Jesus’ last words to the disciples before He ascends to the Father. Jesus commissioned them to be His witnesses to the world and promised that the Holy Spirit would come and empower them to accomplish the mission. The disciples went back to Jerusalem in obedience to Jesus to wait for the sending of the Holy Spirit. The Lord also led the apostles and about 120 followers of Jesus to choose a replacement for Judas. Matthias was chosen to join the 11 other apostles. I can never be reminded enough of what Jesus called His church to do – be His witnesses, as empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit, to make disciples in every nation in the world. Lord, help me be focused on being Your witness in the world, so that others may know the joy of being rightly related to You through faith in Jesus.
